Networking in Aachen

CERBERUS has been the co-sponsor of the 2nd Workshop on 2D Materials for Future Electronics, which took place in Aachen (Germany), on March 3-4, 2026. The event, which attracted more than 120 participants from academia and industry, proved to be a great success, bringing together a vibrant community to exchange ideas and explore emerging developments in the field.

The workshop focused in particular on the role of 2D materials in enabling energy-efficient electronics – a topic that is at the heart of the project CERBERUS. The project coordinator, Sergi Abadal, used this opportunity to present the vison of the project, together with results from the past project WiPLASH (Wireless Plasticity for Massive Heterogeneous Computer Architectures) and his on-going ERC project WINC, which provide important foreground for CERBERUS.

In addition, project partner Johan Liu, from Chalmers University, presented an extensive overview of the research pursued in his group on carbon-based materials for advanced thermal management and innovative electronic packaging solutions. Improved thermal management is one of the three pillars of CERBERUS’ strategy to improve the energy efficiency of in-memory computing (IMC) systems.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in lively discussions and open dialogue. The workshop atmosphere was shaped by inspiring perspectives and a shared enthusiasm for advancing research on 2D materials. Once again, the event demonstrated how valuable such formats are for fostering collaboration and innovation within the community.

The workshop has been organized jointly by AMO GmbH, RWTH Aachen University – ELD, and the Aachen Graphene & 2D Materials Center.
